Canada is now hoping it can buy its way to the top of the medal standings at the Vancouver Olympics with the Own the Podium program. Since being established in 2004, $117 million has been spent on our athletes, with $66 million coming in taxpayer dollars and most of the rest covered by the Vancouver organizing committee (VANOC) with corporate sponsorship money.
With big money comes big expectations, and Own the Podium has set a goal of 35 medals in Vancouver, which should be enough for Canada to finish No. 1. But not all of Canada's athletes are thrilled about the extra pressure put on them from the financial program.
"I don't really care what their goal is, to be honest with you," long-track speed-skater Kristina Groves of Ottawa told the Calgary Herald's Vicki Hall before the Games.
Canadian speed skaters have been projected to win about 15 medals, with as many as 10 of those from the long-track team.

Ugy is mondhatnánk finoman,hogy "érem lopás" tőrtént ami a Pljuscsenko pro Evan Lysacec témát illeti. A négyfordulatos ugrások már réges rég a legnehezebb elemek kőzé sorolhatok,(80-as évek) és egy EB-VB-Olimpián igen is magasabb értéket kellene kapnia aki megugorja, ráadásul,mint a szabadkorcsolyázás kürjében most (is) Pljusenko aki kombinácioban ugrotta! Na de majd márciusban a VB-n jőn a vissza vágo ahol reméljük már nem a jelenlegi "elfogulatlan" zsüri tevékenykedik. Addig meg javasolhatnánk a jelenlegi zsürinek egy kis multbéli sétát BUDÁRA MÁTYÁS KIRÁLYUNK udvarába....hátha rátalálnának az Igazságra.... ami igaz már késő,mert helytelenül "itélkeztek" pontozásba.
Az a véleményem,hogy ilyen és ehez hasonlo "dőntésekkel" meglehet "őlni" egy sportot is sajnos!
Szerintetek ha netán nem Canada nyeri a Jégkorongot mi lesz??? Ott nem pontoznak ugyan is.

Nagy játék volt.Jol játszottak a Kanadaiak,de szerintem az Amerikaiak a kapusuknak Ryan Millernek kőszőnhetik a győzelmet.Azért nincs veszve semmi mégha csoport 2.is 5 ponttal Kanada.Ha az USA eljut az elődőntőig az is nagy szo lesz,mert azért a Svédeket sem szabad kihagyni.Én a magam részéről a negyeddőntősőkre tippelek:Finn, svéd, orosz, kanada.
